Language Awareness Course: The Confidence Boost New Teachers Need (Before and After CELTA)

New teachers often say the same thing in different ways:
“I can teach a lesson, but when a student asks why it’s like that… I freeze.”
“I know the grammar, but I can’t explain it clearly.”
“I’m CELTA-trained, but I still feel shaky with language analysis and phonology.”
That gap isn’t about effort or intelligence. It’s about language awareness — the practical skill of noticing, analysing and explaining English in a way that makes sense to learners.
This course is designed to close that gap.
The problem: teaching English is not the same as understanding English
Whether you’re:
a new teacher about to start teaching,
a pre-CELTA candidate who wants to feel prepared,
a CELTA trainee who needs extra support,
or a post-CELTA teacher who wants to sharpen accuracy and confidence,
…you’ll quickly discover that learners don’t just need “correct answers”. They need:
clear explanations in simple language
examples that fit real-life context
help with pronunciation, stress and intonation
the ability to spot errors and fix them fast
And in CELTA (and in real classrooms), you’re expected to do this under time pressure.
The solution: a structured, supportive Language Awareness course
This course gives you a step-by-step framework to:
analyse grammar, vocabulary and functional language
understand form/meaning/pronunciation relationships
build confidence with phonology (without feeling overwhelmed)
develop independent study habits you can use during CELTA and beyond
It’s practical, teacher-friendly, and built around a flipped classroom approach — so you learn the foundations asynchronously, then use live sessions to practise, ask questions and get feedback.
How the course works (delivery method)
Synchronous (live): Zoom platform
Asynchronous: Learning Management System (hosted on our new website; we can move to Moodle if the programme scales)
Flipped classroom approach: pre-session materials + live practice and coaching
Each session includes:
1.5 hours live (Zoom)
1.5 hours asynchronous (LMS)
That means you’re not just “watching input” — you’re building real skill through repetition, practice and feedback.
Who it’s for
This course is ideal for:
New teachers who want a solid foundation before they step into the classroom
Pre-CELTA teachers who want to reduce stress and feel prepared
CELTA trainees who need extra clarity and guided practice
Post-CELTA teachers who want to strengthen language analysis and phonology (and teach more confidently)
What you’ll be able to do by the end
You’ll leave with the ability to:
explain grammar and vocabulary in clear, learner-friendly language
identify functional language and teach it in context
analyse language quickly using a repeatable framework
spot common learner errors (and correct them effectively)
handle phonemes, word stress and basic intonation with confidence
create a personal plan for ongoing development and CELTA preparation
