Quick answer: how do I improve my IELTS Reading score?
Improve your IELTS Reading score by scanning for key information, recognising synonyms, using the right strategy for each question type, managing your time per passage, and reviewing mistakes so you don't repeat them.

5 tips for success in IELTS Reading
1) Scan first - don't read every word
Read the title and the first sentence of each paragraph. Then go to the questions, underline key words (names, dates, numbers), and scan the text to find them.
2) Look for synonyms (IELTS paraphrases everything)
The answer is rarely written using the same words as the question. Train yourself to spot paraphrases, for example:
increase = rise / grow
cause = lead to / result in
3) Use the question type to choose your approach
Matching headings: focus on the main idea of each paragraph
True/False/Not Given: check meaning carefully and be strict
Multiple choice: eliminate answers using evidence from the text
4) Manage your time per passage
Aim for 15- 20 minutes per passage. If a question is taking too long, move on and come back later.
5) Review mistakes (this is where your band score improves)
After practice, don't just check answers. Write down why you were wrong (timing, vocabulary, misreading, question type) and redo those questions the next day.
