Build the language awareness skills that make teaching feel easier, clearer and more confident. This practical course is designed for new teachers, pre-CELTA candidates, CELTA trainees and post-CELTA teachers who want to strengthen their ability to analyse and explain English in a way learners can actually understand. If you’ve ever frozen when a student asked “Why?”, struggled to choose the best examples, or felt unsure about phonology, this course gives you a step-by-step framework you can use immediately in real lessons. You’ll learn how grammar, vocabulary and functional language work together — and how to teach them with accuracy, clarity and appropriate context. You’ll also develop confidence with core phonology (phonemes, word stress, and basic intonation/rhythm), so you can support learners’ pronunciation without feeling overwhelmed. The course is delivered using a flipped classroom approach: you complete short, guided tasks asynchronously on our LMS, then use live Zoom sessions to practise, ask questions and get feedback. Each of the sessions includes 1.5 hours live + 1.5 hours asynchronous work: Session 1: key terminology and foundations of language analysis Session 2: language categories, form/meaning, context and appropriacy Session 3: phonology essentials (IPA, stress, intonation basics) Session 4: language analysis frameworks + error recognition, advanced practice, independent learning strategies, CELTA preparation By the end, you’ll be able to analyse language faster, explain it more simply, anticipate learner problems, and build a personal toolkit of resources and study strategies you can keep using throughout your teaching career.
