The course is designed for students who are studying English for a short time during the summer months and want to study a more intensive English class.
Classes are available starting every Monday from the beginning to the end of the summer term. The classes combine General English with a skills class to help you improve your performance in areas such as listening, speaking or English for Business.
The lively Summer classes focus on the grammar, vocabulary and skills, which are relevant to everyday life, and provide practice for these key areas. The class follows a course book but supplementary materials are used to match the needs and interests of the students. Materials include CDs, DVDs and computer-based lessons. More information is available on our General English Course page.
The courses are run in conjunction with the General English classes to provide a real world extension and allow you to focus on the most common needs of students. You will study one course per week. The four most popular are as follows.
• Listening / speaking skills (Available weeks commencing 2nd July, 23rd July, 13th August)
As most high schools have English courses, which focus on reading and grammar, the majority of people find listening and speaking much more difficult. We have therefore designed a course to give you extended practice of these two essential skills. You will learn to listen to a variety of accents and pick up the gist and details of discussions and conversations. In your speaking class, you will have the chance to practise conversation while benefiting from extensive pronunciation training.
• English for Work purposes (Available weeks commencing 9th July, 30th July, 20th August)
Most people these days need to be able to speak English as part of their job. Good Business English can open doors to promotion and international opportunities. During the English for work classes, you will be able to practise common business tasks such as introducing yourself, describing your company, writing emails and many more.
• Cambridge Exam Preparation (KET, PET, FCE or CAE) (Available weeks commencing 16th July, 6th August, 27th August)
The Cambridge exam suite is a popular way to prove your level of English to employers and educational institutes. These courses give you the chance to do some preparatory work in your time at Live Language. The courses will focus on the different papers in the exam and develop the strategies necessary to maximise your performance.

• IELTS preparation (Available throughout the summer term)
Another common Cambridge exam is the IELTS. It is an academic exam popular with universities and colleges in the UK. Anyone planning on further study in the UK will need an IELTS score. Medical professionals must also prove their level by way of the IELTS before being able to practise here. Again, the course will focus on the different sections of the exam and develop the strategies essential for success.
