Our General English courses are designed to provide you with the skills and language knowledge you need to be able to use English in a variety of situations. Whether you want to travel, work, live or even study in an English-speaking environment, the courses help you to develop the knowledge you need to use the language effectively.
Our classes are small to ensure that you get the highest level of attention from your teachers. The classes integrate grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation with speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Our experienced, native-speaking teachers use a communicative methodology, which gives you the maximum amount of time to practise your English.
Most people learn English at school, but unlike language classes in primary and high schools, all our classes focus on your ability to produce, not just understand the language. By using only English in your time in class, you'll be surprised at how quickly you improve your language skills and build your confidence.
Your course follows a stimulating core text that takes you through the grammar and skills you need to achieve the Learning Outcomes for your level. You are taught self-study skills to make your learning outside of class more effective too. Your progress is regularly assessed through class tests and you are given frequent feedback from your teacher on how you are improving. Each month, you will also have a one-to-one tutorial with your teacher to reflect on your current level and given study advice on how to improve further. When you have achieved the Learning Outcomes for a level, you are ready to move on to the next one.
Although your teacher adapts the textbook to the needs of the group, your personal study goals are of equal importance. That's why you work with your teacher to develop an Individual Learning Plan. Your teacher and our Academic Support Tutor can help you with techniques and methods to achieve your aims. Your goals may be anything from developing your vocabulary related to a sport you like, to improving your pronunciation or becoming more confident in everyday conversations. By having the opportunity to personalise your learning experience, we make sure that you get everything you need from your time with Live Language.
We also know that studying a language can be difficult and challenging and so we have a range of Support Services to help you progress as quickly as possible and make the most of your time with us. Try our Language Exchange Programme or get additional help from our Academic Support Tutor. We even arrange voluntary work with charities – all to help you improve your English.
